Playing Airsoft: The different methods

By Alexander Malroy

There are several ways of playing Airsoft. The main objective to the game is to have fun and enjoy time with your opponents. Be the last one standing with these methods below.

The MilSim, short for Military simulation is a method of Airsoft playing game that blends military live-action role-playing scenarios. Each team is assigned tasks or missions to accomplish. They are provided with ample supply of ammunition (pellets), batteries, food or rations, gears, uniforms and other safety equipment. Sometimes, equipments such as headsets and radios are being provided; other times, players have the discretion to bring their own communication equipment.

Military simulation games regularly lasts a number of days depending on how large the mission and well the planning of it is. Both teams should remain playing on the field during the duration of the game and should only return to the neutral area only in medical emergencies and any other related circumstances.

Another version of the game is the Skirmish Operations. In this variant of the game, the players are allowed to use different variations of schemes and they can use the hi-capacity magazines. They dress themselves in BDUs. The air guns in this game can be cheap or expensive and the game can be executed in any place depending upon the choice of the two teams.

Players may choose from different variations of game play apart from the real battle itself. The players utilize high-capacity magazines and typically dressed in BDUs. Their Airsoft guns ranges from cheap to expensive ones, as the event can take place anywhere where the two opposing teams may consider appropriate playing areas such as woods, abandoned warehouses, factories or even a farm.

Yet another form of the Airsoft games is the Honor system. In this form, the player needs to admit that they are hit. In the other forms, the referees play a crucial role. With the plastic pellets no one can understand if a player has been hit or not. In MilSim and Skirmish Operations, the referees decide.

In the Honor system, the ability to admit is the key factor. This is because, it is difficult to find whether the bullet fired has actually hit or not. This may happen because of the distraction caused due to the action. Knife kill simulations can also take place. This depends on the venue of the game. Shooting at the point-blank region is discouraged in the game as this can cause accidents. Abrupt shooting (when enemies are not visible) is also discouraged. Again, an opponent who has surrendered or is already dead during the game should not be shot. These kinds of acts are penalized!

The main essence of the game is that the players must enjoy and should not be destructive enough to hurt others. Remember, this is a game not the real war field! - 15255
