Am I Having Adult Asthma Symptoms

By John Schaefer

When an adult first experiences the onset of asthma they are usually very surprised by it. When people see children with the symptoms it is a normal assumption that they have developed asthma but it is often overlooked in adults. When the symptoms strike lots of times adults will hit the panic button because they have never experienced the shortness of breath and the wheezing and coughing. Occasionally, they will even think that they are experiencing a heart attack.

In reality if you are experiencing the symptoms of adult asthma then you need to go get checked out by your family doctor. I doesn't matter what you think it might be that is causing the symptoms the truth is it could be a number of things. Wheezing and tightness in the chest are not something that you want tot mess around with, and your doctor is the only one who can tell you what your condition is for sure.

With this in mind though there are some really good indicators to tell you if your condition is asthmatic in nature. Take into consideration what brought it on. Were you exercising? Did it come on you after you ate something specific? If you go outside on a cold wintery day does it happen when you breathe in? These are some questions that you can ask yourself to give you a clue on whether or not you might have developed asthma.

There are many different treatments for asthma out there and, like most chronic conditions, it usually requires a combination of things. One of the most neglected asthma treatments is diet. Having a diet that avoids things that trigger adult asthma symptoms is important, but it is not enough. Eating a lot of greasy processed foods will often put you at a greater risk of asthma, so it is important to eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, as well as grains of all sorts.

There is also of course the standard medicines that the doctor will prescribe to you. These are very effective in treating adult asthma symptoms. These medicines are usually inhalers. As a child my doctors prescribed me a maintenance inhaler that would keep my symptoms in check and an inhaler that would help me in the case of a severe onset of symptoms. This method of treatment is pretty normal but there are many different alternatives to treat your adult asthma symptoms. Many of these are natural asthma treatments that consist of a variety of herbs that have the effect of counteracting your respiratory signs. In the long run though you need to find what best works for your body. - 15255
