To talk of opportunity when the world is concentrating on survival may sound a little bizarre, but it is not as daft as you think. If you look at the newspapers or look at television news you will hardly be filled with the desire to look for opportunity. Everything you hear and read about will tell you that opportunity has ceased to exist. Luckily, that is far from the truth.
What we need to realize is that what is happening across the world doesn't happen very often, maybe once in a lifetime - which is just as well! But what we are seeing is a debunking of the 'old order', a clearing out of bad practices: a shaming of the greedy, and a powerful spotlight being focused on selfish self-interest.
At this point, there is very little point in complaining. What has happened has happened. We all know who is to blame. Our job is now to get back into the fray and just get on with things. What's done is done. We need to concentrate on the future. About creating a better world, a new moral order, and to see that it cannot happen again.
We are going through a period of structural readjustment. The outcome of this must be a better world order and the ability for individual economies to work together in mutual self interest.
This is all very well, but what has all this got to do with opportunity, and more interestingly, losing weight? It's important because it's all to do with change. The world is going through a process of dramatic change, and so must we if we are to be able to recognize and take advantage of new opportunities.
The obesity epidemic which has been sweeping the civilized world is a symptom of our unhappiness and the state of society. Of course it has other causes, but we have allowed ourselves to become flabby physically - and mentally.
What we all have to do now is to make change. There really isn't any alternative any more. If we are to survive and prosper, we have to change our ways. We have to become leaner and fitter. If we do then there will be a whole host of opportunities for us to grasp - and we'll be able to make the best of them.
To some the thought of making change is daunting. It's not really. All it means is that you have to identify your bad habits and learn new ones, slim habits. If you do, the weight you will lose will be permanent. Permanent weight loss comes from changing your behavior. It's long-lasting and will enable you to be fit and able to create a bright and successful future.
